Martha Pope began her career as a middle school art teacher at the same school she attended. But after moving to DC and becoming a receptionist for Senator Gary Hart, she set off on a path that would lead her to make an impact far beyond her hometown.

As part of her official duties, Martha Pope met many leaders and dignitaries. As Sergeant at Arms to the Senate, she escorted important visitors in the building, such as, the President and his family, Queen Elizabeth of England, and other foreign leaders like Mikhail Gorbachev.
